This steamer trunk, belonging to Anne Sheldon-Duplaix, traveled back and forth with her grandparents between New York and Europe, holding all their possessions until it was passed to her parents’ home in Northern France, and then on to her. She used it to store a carefully curated fabric collection and her dreams of becoming a clothing seamstress. One day, Anne opened the trunk and began sewing clothes for her daughter, which led her to open a children’s clothing shop by constructing clothes from the fabric stored in the steamer trunk at her East Village, NYC home.
Vivian continues, “We wanted a floor plan that opened to the outdoors as much as possible. A place to showcase the art we collect in an inviting, user/dog-friendly space. A place to casually entertain guests while we cook. We chose a Danish dining table/chairs to maximize our view of the fields behind our house that will one day include more sculptures.” The Neill’s worked with architect firm, Howorth & Associates to see their vision to fruition.
It would be the perfect home for Sarah were it not for the fact they can’t have cats. “I have offered bribes and contracts and everything I can think of to our landlord but we just can’t have a cat.” Luckily, Cat Town Cafe, America’s first permanent cat cafe, is within walking distance. It also happens to be one of several non-profit groups where Sarah has volunteered her design work. Other than the lamentable absence of a cat, I can imagine that an ideal evening would be spent in Sarah and Matthew’s gorgeous home, listening to their records, sipping Matthew’s flawlessly mixed cocktails, all while coveting that unbelievable crown molding. And, of course, toasting Sarah on her courageous and inspired decision to reimagine her life.

This wall-hanging comes from Nasozi’s family, purchased in Liberia by her mother in the 1970s, “although the design provenance is Ivory Coast.” It is an example of her deliberate decorative process to instill a global and empathetic worldview in her son through the objects she places in her home.
Adore Your Walls started four years ago when CEO and founder Liz Lidgett started offering art advisory services to restaurants, businesses and homeowners to find the perfect piece of art for their style, space and budget. The business started from her home in Des Moines, IA, but she has worked with national brands and clients all over the country to add more color and culture to their walls. This last year, Adore Your Walls gained startup experience from Kate Wagner, Liz’s sister, as COO. The two share a passion for creating more beautiful rooms with carefully curated art. The company has since grown rapidly and Liz and Kate recently moved from Liz’s dining room table to a 1,000-square-foot office in the historic Temple of the Performing Arts in Downtown Des Moines.
