Perfectly painted drywall or plaster has a clean, easy aesthetic in homes and studios. Its versatility allows color schemes to change effortlessly. The charm and personality in rooms with enclosed walls comes from the pieces that fill the space, rather than the walls themselves. But exposed brick is full of character on its own. Whether it’s a section of wall or a whole room of brick, the historic feel of exposed brick gives a room a commanding statement. Less art and extras are needed in a space beautifully featuring brick. It’s a wow factor that doesn’t need much else. These 10 rooms show off how brick can be incorporated impeccably well in different design styles
Adore Your Walls started four years ago when CEO and founder Liz Lidgett started offering art advisory services to restaurants, businesses and homeowners to find the perfect piece of art for their style, space and budget. The business started from her home in Des Moines, IA, but she has worked with national brands and clients all over the country to add more color and culture to their walls. This last year, Adore Your Walls gained startup experience from Kate Wagner, Liz’s sister, as COO. The two share a passion for creating more beautiful rooms with carefully curated art. The company has since grown rapidly and Liz and Kate recently moved from Liz’s dining room table to a 1,000-square-foot office in the historic Temple of the Performing Arts in Downtown Des Moines.

Betsy and Peter have kept close to their love story, literally: they met in college, married in Saratoga Springs, NY, and now their home is just down the street from their alma mater. The family was planning to relocate to be closer to Peter’s job and had one weekend to find their house; coming back to their college hometown was a happy byproduct. Despite the varying styles of homes they toured, Peter and Betsy knew the moment they stepped into their now home that it was “the one.” Betsy had actually always wanted to live in a barn, and loved how open the spaces were. The fact that it was somehow an in-town barn made walking to restaurants and shops incredibly convenient, it had a space for an on-site design studio as well — it was the perfect fit.
Nick Huff is the proud owner of this Navajo tapestry, made by hand and gifted to his grandmother by her best friend, Midge. In turn, the gift was passed on to him. This piece is a meaningful reminder of the connection Nick had with Midge and his grandmother. “I always value the human connection over anything that might be in the home,” he shares about his approach to decoration in his duplex in Omaha, NE.
